(ACAD) Acadia Pharmaceuticals Gets Pimavanserin Back

October 26th, 2010

This morning, Acadia Pharmaceuticals (ACAD) announced that it has entered into an agreement with Biovail Labs (BLS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, to conclude the previously established collaboration to develop and commercialize pimavanserin in the U.S. and Canada.

Acadia has now reclaimed global rights to the drug. As part of the transaction, Biovail will pay Acadia a one-time payment of $8.75 million to terminate the agreement. No future payments between Acadia and BLS are expected.

Acadia will push forward with the phase III-020 program testing pimavanserin as a treatment for Parkinson’s Disease Psychosis (PDP), a program that BLS was previously responsible for funding. Acadia initiated the trial in July 2010 with a target enrollment of 200 patients. Previously management estimated the costs of the program would be $10 to $12 million.

The $8.75 million payment from BLS to Acadia equates to the estimated remaining expenses to complete the trial. Based on current enrollment, Acadia believes top-line results should be available around the middle of 2012.

Acadia and BLS will also pursue two additional indications for pimavanserin prior to terminating the collaboration agreement. A

We Are Headed For A Blow Off Top

October 26th, 2010

I’m confident that this week is heading to a blow off top. I went 100% long on Monday morning at the close into the 2x index funds, then Tuesday at the close I cut that back 50% due to having jury duty. I ended up being released early so no matter what, it was going to be a good day. Market bounced off the 10:45-11am window or S2 on the 60min. Based on today’s action I went back to my original theory. Blow off top before we pull back. I moved back into the 2x longs 100% at the close today. This is a pattern trade. In fact I don’t if I’ve ever mentioned it before, but I do a lot of pattern related trading.

This particular pattern I tried to explain I think last week. We are in a overbought range, BUT when the trend is STRONG, you get some awesome moves right at the top while in the overbought zone. You know the phrase that overbought and oversold can last longer than you can remain solvent. That is where we are. Ask any bear who has been short since Oct 1.

I don’t know how long or how far the blow off top weekly candle will have a hold over the trend, but I’m pretty certain we have a weekly red candle in our near future.

I will look to possibly either go to cash on Friday at the close, or even attempt a short. Yes counter

Cash-In Closings: 33% Of Homeowners Who Refinanced In 3Q Cut Principal

October 25th, 2010

Consumer deleveraging continues in the housing market, and not all of that is via foreclosure or default. Freddie Mac reports 33% Of Homeowners Who Refinanced In 3Q Cut Principal

One-third of homeowners who refinanced their mortgage terms in the third quarter lowered their principal balance through so-called cash-in at closing, according to Freddie Mac (FMCC).

It was the second-highest total since Freddie began keeping records of refinance patterns in 1985. The revised cash-in rate in the second quarter was 23%.

Rates on 30-year fixed mortgages dropped during the third quarter to levels not seen since the early 1950s, according to Frank Nothaft, Freddie’s chief economist.

The median interest-rate reduction was about one percentage point, or at least 18%. During the first year of the refinance loan life, those borrowers will save over $1,400 in principal and interest payments on a $200,000 loan.

Cash-out borrowers, or those that increased their loan balance by at least 5%, represented 18% of all refinanced loans — the lowest since Freddie began tracking.

URZ Jumping Out Ahead

October 21st, 2010

Due to a .50 move today in URZ its very close to overtaking AUGT in my 7 stock portfolio. AUGT is at 47% and URZ is at 42%. I actually added to my URZ position today thinking it may catch that parabolic rare earth metals poppage, but who knows. DNN also continuing and doing well. I did trim DNN a little bit today as well as some CGR, and GBG to buy the extra URZ. I also added to SIFY. Gains in the portions I took off in CGR (18%), GBG (7%), DNN 38-42%. I also bought more RTN.

I think SIFY is close to being done on the downside for the week.

I also trimmed back my 100% 2x long position down to about 35-40% long, so 60% I took to cash this morning. Would have been slightly better to have held until eod, but at that point I wasn’t sure how it would play out. Based on today’s action I’m pretty sure we are going to stay in the high range of the weekly candle. High chance of pullback NEXT week if this occurs. Not sure what I took in on those indexes, RUT I think was 2x 1.4%, others 1%. Either way index account at a new high.

Without going into to too much detail, there were conflicting major things on my indicators coming into this week. A min
