(AEP) American Electric Power Investing in Competitive Renewable Energy Zone Projects

July 1st, 2011

Electric Transmission Texas, LLC (‘’ETT’’) – a joint venture between the subsidiaries of American Electric Power Company (AEP) and MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company – has entered into master agreements with three construction firms for transmission and infrastructure services associated with the Competitive Renewable Energy Zone (‘’CREZ’’) projects.

Electric Transmission Texasplans to invest approximately $1.4 billion in CREZ projects by 2013. These projects were assigned to ETT by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (‘’PUCT’’).

The three construction firms, namely Quanta Services Inc. (PWR), MYR Group, Inc. (MYRG) and TIC Holdings Inc., have displayed proven capabilities, strong safety focus and commitment to the ETT CREZ program.

The agreement ensures that ETT has significant construction resources committed to help complete its CREZ program in west Texas. As a result of the agreement, the three firms will have enough resources available to construct 450 miles of transmission lines and facilities.

The three construction firms will work under the direction of ETT and URS Corporation (URS). In 2010, ETT had made a con

Government Shutdown in Minnesota: 23,000 of 36,000 State Employees Furloughed; Ohio Privatizes Prisons; Pennsylvania Slashes School Funding

July 1st, 2011

In what we should all hope happens at the national level, Minnesota Shuts Down after failing to pass a balanced budget by the June 30 deadline.

Minnesota’s state government began a broad shutdown on Friday going into the July 4th holiday, after Democratic Governor Mark Dayton and Republican legislative leaders failed to reach a budget deal.

Parts of the government had already begun to shut down on Thursday ahead of the midnight budget deadline, including some websites and dozens of highway rest stops on one of the biggest travel days of the year.

The budget impasse means that some 23,000 of the roughly 36,000 Minnesota state employees will be furloughed, and state parks and campgrounds will be closed ahead of what is usually their busiest stretch of the year for the Independence Day holiday.

All but the most critical state functions will be suspended while the spending impasse continues into the new fiscal two-year period that starts on Friday, which would make the 2011 shutdown much broader in scope than one in 2005.

NJ Cuts Aid to Local Governments, Family Planning

Controversial Governor Chris Christie signed a $29.7 billion budget, averting a government shutdown, after slashing $900 million using his line-item veto authority from the budget Democrats had presented to him.

“I will not give in to the Democrats’ tax-and-spend agenda no matter how many times they and their allies and special interests demagogue me for refusing to do so,” Christie told the Associated Press.

Today Made Up For It

July 1st, 2011

I’m still short. I didn’t get wrapped up in feeling bullish after the Thursday, Friday, Tuesday thrust. It did kick me out of my trading account positions though and it did get me questioning myself. However, I stuck with the 2x inverse funds after going over the weekly indicators and seeing that there was still definite danger in the charts and in my indicators. It was not a good long setup. Today made up for it. Tuesday’s move is what really threw me.

Basically the indexes are showing the same exact setup as last week. However, what happened this time around is that we are getting oversold in the back half of the week and not the Monday/Tuesday like we did last week.

Last week I was playing for a total selloff into last Friday that would setup a buy going into this week. We had a very nice reactionary short squeeze that was sort of a blowoff. We should see new closing lows now. I’ve been in the 2x inverse funds after adding back to 100% on Thursday (I think). However, Thurs and Friday were bad for my option positions which took losses and scared me/stopped me out of my positions which would have killed today and more than made up for any drawdown. Same ol

Added To Shorts, I’m Crazy

July 1st, 2011

Added back to my 50% short fund position bumping it up to 100%. I’m playing for the next two days and am expecting we end the week lower than today’s close.

If by some chance we completely rally into Friday’s close, I’ll probably cash out and look to go long as all red indications would have flopped over. I can’t play for that possibility until it happens.

Futures are slightly green. Expecting a higher morning followed by a later day selloff.

Profits were relatively protected. EDZ didn’t get hit that badly today, had a profit cushion from the past two days drop in the funds to cushion this drawdown, and SDS wasn’t hit either.

I added to EDZ and SDS heavily at the close and like I said earlier doubled up my 2x inverse fund position to 100%. Also bought some EUO calls. This is the 2x inverse Euro etn.
