Here Is My Bounce Blueprint

March 19th, 2011

I’m going long on Friday if and only if certain conditions in my charts are still there come 3:45 pm Friday.

LVS – this one can’t go much lower or I won’t play it. Needs to stay where it is.

F – Love it here. Will look at Sep calls. Either this and rest of stocks begin a spring rally or the trend down will begin. Possible other play is a 1 week bounce only before downward momentum starts over again.

VALE – Might IRA this one. Good fundies, good Japan rebuild play, and oversold at the right places.

NVDA – For a short term play only. If market bounces tends to bounce larger % than most other stocks.

BRCM – Love it, not the company the bounce setup potential.

FAS – A bunch of financials are showing up on my bounce list, I’m just going to roll with FAS or XLF calls.

TCK – Really liking the setup here.

AMZN – Hate the stock, love the store, like the setup short term over the next two weeks for a nice pop.

NTAP

ATML

TC

RIO

HMC, CYD, AXL – More auto play setups

Traditional breakout play SJT

(S) What You Need to Know About 4G Smartphone Technology

March 6th, 2011

by Ryan Cole, Investment U Research Tuesday, March 1, 2011

The 4G wars have begun.

The winner may or may not receive a decided edge in the hearts and minds of telecom consumers. But one thing’s certain – it sure can’t hurt.

Before we try to predict a winner, though, let’s take a closer look. What exactly is 4G, and why – beyond marketing – should we care?

Technically Speaking, There is No 4G

According to the UN’s International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the agreed-upon standard-bearer for telecommunications definitions, there is no 4G yet.

Huh? So what’s all the hype about then?

Well, it simply has to do with the ITU’s definition for 4G.

None of the technology currently available – or about to come online – fit the description.

According to the ITU, a 4G technology will be able to support over-the-air downloads of one gigabit per second to cell phones (and other hardware), along with a number of other specs that your broadband at home can’t achieve yet.

So, in a way, every time you hear a company boast “4G,” think “marketing speak.” That said, there are some new standards of communication coming out that are a good bit better than what’s available now…

A Flurry of Acronyms and Double-Speak… But Here’s What You Need to Know

Sprint-Nextel’s (NYSE: S) Wimax network and Verizon’s (NYSE: VZ) LTE network both are significant upgrades over the current 3G standard – and even the ITU has grudgingly decided to call these new communications standards a next generation.

But here’s where it gets confusing. Both T-Mobile and AT&T

I Was Looking For Two-Three Days, Played It For Four

March 4th, 2011

I was looking for 2-3 days of downward movement when I got short. I played it for four and that was a mistake. The fourth day turned the trade into a loss. In case you’re wondering today is day four since Feb 26th. The key item is that I thought we needed a bit more down. I planned on covering in the morning had we had a down open and then would have reversed to the long side or just kept it in cash.

I covered all my shorts this morning. I knew we would go higher. Yesterday’s post mentioned the gap up scenario that would concern me because that is what has happened in recent history. I also said in the graphic below that we would go to new highs. I think that is where we are headed and this seems so similar to 2003-2004 move now.

This was a frustrating trade. I stayed in cash and will wait tomorrow to see if any clues unravel by the close. Today was a major swap back to the bullish side in the number of stocks being up vs down.

Libyan Rebels Capture Major Oil Hub; Government Forces Repel Rebel Attacks in Other Cities; How Long Can Qaddafi Hang On?

March 3rd, 2011

Yesterday, rebels captured Ras Lanuf, a town 400 miles east of Tripoli, home of a tanker terminal that exports about 200,000 barrels of oil a day as well as Libya’s biggest refinery.

However, both sides have claimed victories elsewhere, and accurate assessments of precisely what is happening are difficult.

Please consider Libya’s Rebels Claim Another Oil Hub in Day of Clashes

Fighting between Libyan rebels and troops loyal to Muammar Qaddafi intensified as the opposition advanced west from the oil hub of Ras Lanuf toward the leader’s hometown of Sirte.

Rebel fighters battled Qaddafi’s troops today as they approached Sirte, 230 miles east of the capital, Tripoli, said Khaled el-Sayeh, a coordinator between the opposition’s military forces and its interim ruling council in Benghazi.

State television reports that Qaddafi’s troops had recaptured Ras Lanuf overnight were false and designed to “bring down the morale of the youths,” el-Sayeh said. The rebels today remained in control of the port, which regime forces shelled with rockets and artillery, the AP reported.

Rebels yesterday took control of Ras Lanuf, 400 miles east of Tripoli, where they shot down two helicopters and a fighter jet. The town has
